Do the math only after confirming the rule. A grade calculator should make the assumption visible instead of presenting one unexplained result.

Check the syllabus, assignment instructions, and instructor announcement for the exact base and limit of the bonus.

Identify the layer
Ask whether the points raise a quiz score, category average, weighted course points, or the final percentage directly.

Run a bounded scenario
Calculate the expected result and a lower result if the work earns partial credit. Keep the regular grade calculation separate.

Some courses cap categories or final grades. Do not assume unused extra credit can always offset a different category.
