Use course points to make the math visible. That also makes it easier to see which category can actually change your next decision.

List the categories
Copy category names and weights from the syllabus. Confirm whether a category uses points, percentages, dropped scores, or replacement rules.

Calculate category points
Multiply the category average by its decimal weight. A 84% category worth 30% contributes 25.2 course points.

Add completed points
Sum the category contributions that are currently known. Keep incomplete categories separate rather than treating them as zero without checking the rules.

Use the result for planning
Compare scenarios such as a next quiz or final exam. The result is a planning estimate, not a guarantee about the instructor’s gradebook.
