A useful reading schedule accounts for the purpose of the reading and leaves enough time to recover when a chapter takes longer than expected.

Clarify the reading job
Decide whether the goal is overview, close reading, notes for discussion, problem solving, or evidence for a paper. The job changes the time needed.

Divide by sessions
Use sections, headings, or page ranges to make a session finishable. Avoid assigning an entire book chapter to a single late-night block by default.

Add a recall pass
After reading, write the main claim, two supporting details, and one question. That small pass makes the next review more efficient.

Leave catch-up space
Keep at least one flexible reading block each week. It is easier to move a buffer than to rebuild every later assignment.
